SUPERWOMAN vs SUPER - WOMAN
/It’s time that we kill SUPERWOMAN.
SUPERWOMAN is the concept that we can literally do everything at once. Which the attempt to do so leads to burn out every time. And it’s time that we focus on being a SUPER woman.
A SUPER woman is the concept that we can actually do anything we want to, but it can’t all be done at once. It’s the concept that we are SUPER at prioritizing, defining what is look like to “have it all” for us individually in our current season. (Knowing that it could change in the next season). A SUPER woman defines what it looks like to “have it all” right now, in their current season, and they prioritize to focus in on that. WITHOUT comparison to other people’s season… (that’s the hard part).
Behind every successful SUPER woman is herself! Make S - E - L - F a 4 letter word that LOVE and prioritize. You can’t pour from an empty jug. You can’t do all your good willed things unless you’ve kept yourself healthy: emotionally, physically, spiritually.
Studies show that we need to be intentional on building a care strategy for these areas of our lives everyday. Going hard at everything else and expecting to take 1 full day to recharge and go again isn’t actually going to fill your tank. We have to do this daily to optimize being your best in the everyday. “But my week’s are so busy” self care doesn’t necessarily have to take up hours of your day. Maybe it’s:
emotional care: listing 3 things at the end of the day that you’re proud of.
spiritual care: start your day with a scripture reading and prayer. Set the tone for you heart, mind & soul.
physical care: workout! maybe it’s a walk, maybe it’s an intense cycle class with yours truly ;)
mental care: REST! Go to bed at the same time, wake up at the same time. No phones for an hour before bed. Sleep in the dark— many benefits to a better sleep cycle.
When thinking about your S-E-L-F care, Harvard health studies have shown that gratitude in particular contributes significantly to your happiness, which makes you more productive and successful.
Just think about the word “appreciation” it means two things. Increasing value over time and giving thanks. So you want to appreciate (grow)? Then APPRECIATE (live in gratitude!).
More on being SUPER woman versus SUPERWOMAN next week. But for now, work on writing out a DAILY self care plan and try sticking to it for a week! We’ll check in on how you feel next Monday. It’s all the little things that add up to your entire life! Don’t discount what 10 minutes at the beginning and end of your day could do for your overall week and happiness!
XOXO
