& the "first's" begin...

Sometime firsts are exciting, and sometimes firsts remind us that we lack experience or knowledge in a certain area….

Our first Doctor’s appointment in context of pregnancy was both.

Firstly, it was super interesting going to a clinic during this season of C19. Signage & sanitizer, masks & face shields & oddly quiet waiting rooms as they’ve spaced out the appointments to over people overlap.

But we still had excitement in our hearts as we walked in hand in hand. Josh had my hand in one of his, & our two positive pregnancy tests in the other (that he insisted on bringing like a proud kindergardener at show & tell :P). As we told the receptionist why we were there, it’s like a ray of sunshine had shone on their day. They were full of smiles & excitement for us.

First things first I was to pee into one of those test cup things so they could confirm again through a urine test. That was a first, I’ve never peed in one of those things, It’s hard to aim!!

We sat in the doctor’s office waiting for him, and the nurse peaks her head in & says, “Oh, it’s positive!” Hearing those words from a nurse made it all the more real. Josh looked at me with tears in his eyes, and with his tight smile almost holding his breath so he didn’t cry said, “that just got real.”

The Doc came in & reviewed all of our OBGYN, midwife etc options, multi-vitamins, do’s and don’ts, frequency of appointments, all the while Josh was vigorously taking notes (I just love it :P). But you see these are all FIRSTS for us. As we grow as adults, many firsts kind of build off of another experience so it’s almost like we’ve build up a competence to experience yes a first but it feels very natural.

Hearing you’re growing a baby & becoming parents, yes as a natural element to it, but it also at the same time is something that you don’t necessarily build upon past experiences to help soften the transition.

We have literally never thought about the ingredients needed to move through a pregnancy with the upmost health and care. So we were eager to learn & obvious write it all down accordingly Josh’s iphone LOL.

So we had a great appointment & the Doc left us with an exciting piece of news…. the approximate DUE DATE…. DECEMBER 2nd! WOW.

The countdown is in my calendar already :).

Don’t be afraid of firsts. Dive in, be eager to learn, & diligent to grow.

XOXO Ash
